The eight artists of Showdown work in film, sculpture, installation and painting. They share the common pulse of contemporary art and present competing aesthetic philosophies. Showdown at Gallery 414 provides the space for the artists to battle it out.

Nate Glaspie's minimal sculptures of hand-finished metal matched with natural material are juxtaposed with Tim Harding's scissor-hewed paper, charcoal and light installations. Harmony Padgett carves out a space for the figure somewhere between soft sensuousness and hard-edged abstractions while Lorrie McClanahan and Devon Nowlin blur lines of figurative painting through the use of digital manipulation. Shafaq Ahmad's vividly abstracted figures are in contrast to the order found in Adeniyi Olagunju's found object constructions and Christoph Trendel's video observations of mundane activity.
